The America’s Cup

Category: World Cup – Author: admin – 9:38 pm

When you talk about the best sailing competitions in the world, all discussions start and end with The America’s Cup. It is by far the most popular and the most heralded regatta in the sports of sailing. Known as the Holy Grail of yachting, The America’s Cup is also the oldest active international competition where a trophy is at stake. It is older than the FA Cup by over 20 years and older than the Modern Olympics by nearly five decades. It is no wonder why the best sailors and leading yacht designers and manufacturers in the world all come out, eager to make their presence felt, when The America’s Cup comes around.

The Cup is named after the very first winner of this competition, a schooner called America, which won the Cup in 1852. In this competition, the trophy stays in the hands of the winner until the next competition and only changes hands if the champion is dislodged. The schooner America prevailed in this event for a stunning 132 years, a record for the longest winning streak in sports history, before relinquishing it in 1983 to Australia II from Australia. After over a century, the Cup left America for the land down under.

Today, the America’s Cup comprises a best-of-nine series between only two competitors. It pits the winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup and the reigning champion. The Louis Vuitton Cup has its own series of races and the winner earns the right to compete in The America’s Cup. It began in 1970. Like before, whoever win The America’s Cup race gets to take the cup home to their local yacht club.

The prestige surrounding the Cup has also captured the fancy of film makers. For example, in 1992, the film “Wind” was released and it focused on Dennis conner’s loss to Australia in 1983 and his successful effort to re-capture the Cup during the next series. In addition, the Goodyear Tire Company has established a tradition of naming its commercial blimps after the America’s Cup champion. This is because the company’s former chairman, Paul Litchfield, believed that blimps are “aerial yachts” which is why he started the tradition. Over the years, the blimps have had such colorful names as Stars & Stripes, Mayflower, Enterprise and, of course, America.

The Connoisseur Coffee Cup - French Press Coffee Maker

Category: World Cup – Author: admin – 10:19 pm

The world is full of coffee - filter coffee, vacuum coffee, milk coffee, that coffee, this coffee - but nothing can be ever tastier than the coffee made in a French press coffee maker. Let me tell you why, if you are curious to know. To best understand why the French press coffee maker makes the best possible cup of coffee, you should get to know how the coffee is prepared in this process.

A Very Unusual Way to Protect the Coffee Flavor

It is said that the French press coffee maker creates the best coffee in the world. This is because of the process it is made with. The French press coffee maker consists of a long beaker made of glass, where sugar and coffee (freshly ground) is added. Nothing else is added to it but water, which is then heated and brought to a boil. Once the water is hot (boiling), there will be a plunger of a silver foil which needs to be slowly lowered towards the bottom of the beaker.

As the plunger goes down, the frothy, fresh and aromatic coffee will come up and the residue will be separated by the plunger. The coffee thus obtained is just amazing. It can be compared to some extent with Turkish coffee. Since the beaker has complete control over the temperature inside and out, the coffee can be served piping hot anytime you need it.

There are other names given to the coffee made by a French press coffee maker. People know this type of coffee as the cafetiere, presspot and/ or the plunger and it is a hot favorite all over the world. Because it is using hot water and freshly grounded coffee beans, it gives an exceptionally strong, rich and flavorful coffee which amply deserves the name of the connoisseur coffee maker.

The type of coffee you are using for this type of coffee is very important. Usually, for best results, coffee which is obtained from fried beans and then ground with the help of a burr grinder is used. This type of grinder grinds the coffee in a granulated form instead of powder.

Because of this, the beans will maintain the richest flavor and this same flavor will get soaked in the heated water used in the French press coffee maker. Once you taste a cup of coffee made this way, it is doubtful you will ever enjoy anything else again.
